HUG Your Baby’s Online Course has won the 2009 Web Health Award.

The Web Health Awards recognizes the best Web-based health information for consumers and professionals. A panel of international health and Internet experts identifies the best consumer health information materials and programs from organizations throughout the nation. HUG Your Baby is the 2009 (Spring/Summer) Merit Winner for Internet professional education.

A crisis is growing in the care of babies and young families in the United States—a crisis made worse by the state of the economy and made evident in the current health care debate. Increasingly, the Internet is consulted by today’s parents (and the professionals who serve them). Identifying credible and accessible web information is vital. The Web Health Award program (and its parent organization, the Health Information Resource Center) leads national efforts to do this.

“Our goal is to give professionals tools to help expectant and new parents become the good moms and dads they want to be!” says Jan Tedder, HUG Your Baby’s creator and CEO. “It is encouraging to have our educational efforts honored by this award.”

Using professional images and voice-over along with powerful video and story-telling, HUG Your Baby’s online course provides continuing education for prenatal, childbirth, and newborn professionals. Professionals who take this two-hour, online course (approved for continuing education credit) learn how to help expectant and new parents understand their baby’s body language in order to prevent and solve common problems around a baby’s eating, sleeping, crying, and attachment.

The HUG Your Baby DVD and educational website were previously honored as winners of the National Health Information Award and WWW Health Award in 2007. These awards are also made under the auspices of the Health Information Resource Center.
